Courtney Ogden and the Busselton Half Ironman
Mon, 17 May 2010The beginning of May brings with it a change in the seasons, a nip in the air and of course the Busselton Half Ironman competition. This year it was a full house for entries and as busy as it has ever been for spectators. The run chute was crowded two deep for at least 2km back from the finish line and many people lined parts of the course elsewhere to add to the atmosphere and give athletes some encouragement for the duration. Weather was perfect and proceedings went very well with no major injury events that I am aware of, with the exception of the leader, Luke McKenzie, taking 30 seconds or so to work out which way he was going to take the transition chute in T1. No biggy as he had 3-4 minutes lead on the nearest pack and could therefore afford to take his time and be choosy.
Biosymm was represented well by Courtney Ogden, WA home grown talent, who having qualified for Kona this year in Port Macquarie, backed up on the weekend to complete the half in fourth position. Good job as usual. Always inspiring to watch Oggy casually step off the bike and run down a few spots to finish well on the run. Courtney is hitting his straps this year after a season and a half with injury and we hope to see him continue on through 2010 to have strong run at the world champs in October.
As usual Courtney provides some insight for us into his race with his full race report.
